Product Review - Chewbz Sweets

A couple of Fridays back, the very kind folks at Chewbz sent me a email to tell me that they were sending me a sample of their products to review for my blog.  Boy, oh boy, did I get excited!

For those who have not heard of Chewbz, it is a UK company, based in Southampton, that specialises in providing us folk with retro sweets from the 70's, 80's and 90's.  The company's speciality is its namesake, the Chewb, which I will speak about in detail later on.  However, due to the company's growing success, its range has grown to include retro sweet jars, hampers and gift boxes.

On Saturday morning, the day after I received the email, a big delivery arrived. I looked at the address label with bleary eyes and it stated 'Dearest Postie, please deliver these Chewbz to Victoria Graham'.  Wow!  Not only was delivery super fast, but what a way to start my weekend - SWEETIES!!

On opening the package, I was greeted by a variety of goodies wrapped in bright pink tissue paper.  Talk about reigniting childhood memories of 'Pass the Parcel'! My eyes were immediately drawn to the biggest item which was, to my delight, a Small Retro Sweetie Jar filled with Black Jacks and Fruit Salads.  I used to love buying these guys from the local corner shop!
Small Retro Sweetie Jar

I cannot tell you exactly how many sweets were in the jar, as I started eating them before I could count them!  However, Chewbz states that each jar holds a total of 110 Black Jacks and Fruit Salads.  At a cost of £5.00, that is approximately 4.5p a sweet. I consider this to be good value for money, especially as the sweets are presented in a lovely, see-through plastic jar with a bright red screw-top.

In total, there are 25 different varieties in the Small Retro Sweetie Jar collection including Fried Eggs, Cola Bottles, Pink Shrimps and my most beloved of all sweets, Drumsticks.  If you are a sweetie-a-holic, like my Mr, you could build your own little tuck shop at home with these delightful jars.  Actually, I think I may come to regret that suggestion when he reads this review!

Tubz - Flying Saucers
I was already in sweetie heaven and I had only unveiled one of the products.  The next product that I opened up was a Tubz of Flying Saucers, another of my very favourite sweeties.  The Tubz is, quite simply, a plastic tub filled up with Flying Saucers.  The Tubz cost £2.50 each and they hold 21 Flying Saucers.  One may consider this a little steep, but I think it is a great gift for a friend who needs a good pick me up!  There are 22 different Tubz to choose from, which means a difficult decision lies ahead for my future purchases....which one/ones do I choose?!

The final product that I unwrapped up was the Mini Retro Sweet Chewbz.  The Chewbz, after which the company is named, is a see-through, cylindrical tube crammed full of one's favourite old-school sweeties. I think I physically squealed with delight when I saw that one of the Chewbz (yes, those marvellous folk at the company sent me two!) was filled up with DRUMSTICKS!!!  I had found heaven.

ZOMG! Drumsticks!!!
The Mini Retro Sweet Chewbz held 27 drumsticks and costs £4.00 - this works out at about 15p per Drumstick.  Although this may seem a little bit dear on the surface, I like to consider what you are paying for as a whole.  It is not only a delight to look at a mass of sweets crammed together, but it is great fun to open too.  I love the fact that you unscrew the Chewbz at the centre in order to get to the sweeties!  As a gift, it is really unique and I'm sure children of all ages would be delighted to receive it. I know
that I was enchanted by it!

I think that these Mini Retro Chewbz would make a fantastic alternative to the conventional party bag at a child's birthday party.  In fact, I would make the Chewbz a integral part of the party itself.  I think it would be great to get the children to sit together and decorate their own Chewbz with glitter, pre-cut paper animal shapes, ribbons, etc.  Okay, it might get a bit messy but I am sure the kids would clean up after me!

Tuck in! It's Tuckshop Chewbz!
The Mini Retro Chewbz range has 19 different options to choose from. The other variety that I received was the Tuckshop Mix, which had a great mixture of sweets including Double Lollies; Love Hearts; Fizzers; Parma Violets; Drumsticks (yippee!); Sherbet Sweets; Mr Chews and Fruit Lollipops.  That's quite a selection, isn't it?  I would say that there were probably a few more sweets in this one than the Drumstick Chewbz, but that is only because the sweets were varied in size, as opposed to the Drumsticks.

I have to confess, this is the most fun I have had doing a review so far.  Come on, who would not have fun reviewing loads of sweets?!  Joking aside though, I am truly impressed with the service provided by Chewbz in terms of delivery and friendly email contact; the sweets are beautifully presented in a unique and fun way that is sure to please anybody who is or was once a child; and the products in the Chewbz range are good value for money.
